A Date Idea

So I was pottering about the Farmers Market in the University today and I decided that I was going to treat myself to a brownie. I ambled up to my favourite bakery stall, batted my lashes at the owner and asked, pretty please, if I could have a corner brownie... I love edges... chewy goodness. And of course being the wonderful and customer pleasing baker that he is he obliged my request. His laughter at my request turned into a quick chat about business in general. Mr Baker informed me that he was going to be opening a cafe/bakery in Limerick city soon... In the Milk Market... In June (shameless plug). To which I replied that  as a loyal Facebook fan of his company I already knew about it. So we fell into chatting about different bits of information about his new cafe. He said that he was thinking of possibly doing a late opening night but that he wasn't too sure yet whether it would be a good idea.

To which I replied.... Go For It!

We all know of my love of coffee here, and also my fondness for cake... so the potential to combine them both...  at night time... WIN

So I started chatting to Mr Baker about having a Cake Date night once a week... as an alternative to a night in the pub, or a trip to the cinema, or having to stare at each other for two hours over dinner. What do you think? Would if fly as an idea? Do you think that you would enjoy a night out... aromatic coffee... twinkling fairylights... ambient music... a piece of cake? Or maybe even having a 'Cake Date' special - two drinks and a taster plate of mini cake slices to share... maybe three flavours, two forks and just one plate?

Or course this is all still very hypothetical and made up in my head for now but I'm sure that with enough people interested we could persuade Mr Baker to go with it. At the moment there are few venues in Limerick for people to enjoy their evening away from the pub and while a cozy night tucked away in a pub snug is hard to beat sometimes a body just wants an alternative... what do you think?

Do you like cake?

Things I Love Thursday

Thesis Tea Time - Since I'm at the write up stage of my thesis I am pretty much chained to my laptop and desk, and good, creative academic writing really can't happen without a full cup of coffee beside me. The only way to keep a constant supply ready is to make my coffee in a travel mug. Otherwise it just gets freezing cold by the time I remember to drink it. Doesn't stop me lusting after some new coffee and tea mugs though. I went trawling over at Etsy earlier and fell in love with this, this and this.

Fork Fancy - On my last day of house sitting this week (I've been minding S&C's house while they were on honeymoon) I decided that a treat of coffee and cake was in order to commemorate the last day in Cashel. Away I went to the local cafe and bakery. Bought my coffee and slice of hazlenut tart and sat down beside the window with Raymy to people watch for a little while, and as I enjoyed my slice of tart I realised that it wouldn't have tasted as good if I ate it with a spoon. Some things just taste better when eaten with a fork... cheesecake, cupcakes, ice cream, pie, all better from a fork. Do you think so too?

Mix It Up - I was watching No Strings Attached one evening this week and I nearly died laughing when Ashton Kutchers character gave Emma a period mix CD as a gift. Featuring songs like 'Sunday bloody Sunday', 'I've got the world on a string', 'bleeding love', 'red, red wine'... you get the gist here. So I started thinking about mix CDs... and how much meaning we put into them when they are being created. Have you ever made a mix tape or CD? Who for? Why?

Honourable Mentions - fresh, new raspberry coloured notebooks, apple bonbons, nude nail polish, oversized aprons while working in the kitchen, roast chicken dinners, hot chocolate on a stick, otter pops, friends who pop over for a visit with chocolate and magazines under their arm, this skirt from River Island, coke from a can - not a bottle, Cirque du Soleil souvenirs, daydreams of visiting all of the major American cities, penguin skittles

I Don't Lie

See... I wasn't exaggerating yesterday when I posted that I would have no life for a while. This is what I've been looking at all day.

Thank god for the bag of Wilde Irish Chocolate buttons (organic and fairtrade) that Craig gave me a little while ago.

Think I might go make a fresh cup of coffee and get back to it....

Terrible Tuesday

This is what I need right now.

My week is going to be a haze of coffee and exam grading and chapter writing for my thesis.

Bah, I hate deadlines.

Things I Love Thursday

All Things Nautical - Todays outfit is a pair of navy shorts with gold buttons worn with denim and white striped wedges. All I need now is a navy and white striped cardi and I'm all set to go. What is it about sunshine and wanting to dress like a sailor?

Iced Coffee - And sunny days obviously call out for a refreshing cold drink! Now I'm not talking about one of those over sugared, over priced cream concoctions that you can buy from a coffee outlet, I'm talking about a simple latte served over ice. Heaven.

Fredrick Back in Limerick - It's going to be short lived as he is heading back to the Big Shmoke soon but it really is great to have him around again. :) Just don't tell him I said that.

Honourable Mentions - funfairs, nude nail polish, Oreo McFlurrys, floral scarves, going to the beach, cream eggs for 20c in Superquinn, Mr. Power not visiting me (anti TiLT)

*Update - On reading this TiLT Mr. Power decided to prove me wrong and is currently on his way to Limerick, from Cork, for some tea.
