Audrey

I have a huge admiration for the work of Audrey Hepburn. Sabrina, Roman Holiday, Funny Face and, of course, Breakfast At Tiffany's. I came across several quotes from the wonderful woman herself and also some comments made by peers and co-stars.

- "Let's face it, a nice creamy chocolate cake does a lot for a lot of people; it does for me."

- "The best thing to hold on to in life is each other."

- "Look, whenever I hear or read I'm beautiful, I simply don't understand it . . . I'm certainly not beautiful in any conventional way. I didn't make my career on beauty."

- "I never think of myself as an icon. What is in other people's mind is not in my mind. I just do my thing."

- "I don't want to be alone, I want to be left alone."

- Cynthia Rowley: "She was the first to make something that's not sexy, sexy."

- The New York Times: "Thanks to their first glimpse of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, half a generation of young females stopped stuffing their bras and teetering on stiletto heels."

- Isaac Mizrahi: "One got a sense that Audrey Hepburn didn't know how beautiful she was. There was never another movie star like her."

These quotes from, and about, Ms. Hepburn were found here.

Melting Hearts

source

I heart these earrings, and for those of you who agree with me you can buy them here.

Uros Vitas

Uros Vitas, based in Belgrade, Serbia, has designed the MIESROLO, a dynamic cantilevered chair which can be rolled up for storage. Uros is the kind of designer you would love to hate because he came up with the idea before you could but it would be impossible to hate someone as talented as him.

I really hope this piece goes into production.

You can follow some of his work here on the University of Belgrade blog.

Philippe Nigro

I spotted this seating system designed by Philippe Nigro over at The Contemporist.

Confluences is a modular seating system designed for Ligne Roset and can be arranged to suit many needs of the user.

I love the ‘Toi et moi’ (‘You and me’) love seat. It's so cute.

Things I Love Thursday

Freshly Mown Grass - Last week when the weather was nice there was an absolute flurry of lawnmowers out to do the first cut of the season. The smell was incredible.

My Hush Puppy Boots - Now that the weather is back to it's usual rainy self I am very thankful for my warm, dry boots.

Wardrobe Surprise - When you find something at the back of your wardrobe that you thought didn't fit and it does. Double bonus... new clothes and feeling like you lost some weight.

Gamboling - Watching dogs playing together on the lawns in college is really sweet. A little heartbreaking at the moment but still so sweet.

Are you in love with anything today?

Sweet

Bathroom Breaks

source

I spotted this over at notcot and think it's a great idea.

A Polaroid camera instead of a mirror, to let you know exactly how you look. It might not be suitable for everywhere, or be cost effective but it is nifty!

Nifty is my word of the day.

Now before Sonya even mentions that these photos means that I'm getting broody I will tell you all that I am not!

They're just really sweet images.

Blog Of The Week

My Blog Of The Week goes to the Jackson Family.

Molly and Vic have shown such strength and courage while facing one of the toughest times of their lives when Lucy passed away on May 22nd 2008 after choking on a piece of apple.

Their blog, which had been started when Lucy was about 9 months old, was to document the wonderful life that was unfolding in front of two proud parents, but when tragedy struck they still found the strength to continue to document their lives without their little angel.

I would like to wish Molly and Vic all the best for the arrival of their new baby boy, who is due in the next few weeks, and hope that their hearts are healing a little each day.

Pocket Posh

I spotted a post over at Black*Eiffel about these beautiful puzzle books. They are gorgeous, small enough to pop into your handbag and stylish enough to pull out whenever you have a few moments to fill.

And even though Brain Training and the Nintendo DS are all the rage at the moment I much rather have a paper product in my hands.

These books are created by the Puzzle Society and can be bought here. They would be a really great gift for anyone.

Hint hint!

On A Sad Note

I'm sorry that I have been quiet for the last few days.

My beautiful, scruffy dog Holly was put to sleep this week. She was 14 years with us, and had developed arthritis and a tumor.

I already miss her more than I can describe. She was my family.

Things I Love Thursday

New Underwear - I love getting nice new undies, and I will commend the staff of Debenhams Limerick for their helpfulness and attention to detail. Maggie can now go to the ball!

Spring - The weather is finally turning dry and sunny, I feel like spring is in the air.

Lunch Out In Town - Sonya and I treated ourselves to lunch out in Luigi Malones yesterday. We split a starter and a pizza.... yum yum.

What ticks your boxes today?

Not Cool

No matter what people do with artistic black and white shots smoking will never ever be cool in my eyes.

Things I Love Thursday

White Furniture - I am completely in love with the sofa that Jennifer Ramos reupholstered over at madebygirl.

Galway - I get to go visit Mr T for the weekend. I hope to spend it walking along the strand in Salthill, sharing a piece of cake in a nook in Sonny's and curling up in bed with a good dvd.

Noodles - Steaming hot, slightly spicy, completely delicious.

Going To The Ball - A big dress, pretty shoes, lots and lots of black and white photos and a great night.

What loves fill you today?

Biscuit Making

I wish I could make some time to make some biscuits.
I'd love to try to make coconut biscuits with a really sweet icing on top but I don't know what recipe to use. I know cupcakes are the bakers dream at the moment but I would love to make biscuits today.

What are your favourite biscuits?

Books to Read

images courtesy of www.amazon.co.uk

I called in to see a friend last night and she told me to help myself to some books from her heaving book shelves. I love a good book to curl up with before falling asleep so I decided to stick with something light-hearted and chose 'Marley & Me' and 'Calendar Girls'. I have a real soft spot for books that become movies and I can't wait to dive into them tonight.

Have any of you read either of these books? What did you think?

VivaLaModa

I spotted a link over at Bonzie for a new online magazine 'VivaLaModa'. Bonzie is one of this issues 'Designer Spotlights' and her beautiful designs also grace the cover of the magazine.

A quick run down about VivaLaModa

VivaLaModa is a bi-monthly magazine created to show the greatest and coolest fashionable and hand made things that we can find. But we don’t want to talk only about fashion or beautiful stuff we find. This magazine will also host articles about green products, toys, decoration, product reviews and many more things.
We want to support indie designers and crafters who make things with their own hands (not to forget we also love vintage!), and give readers information about the handmade world.

This magazine is made with love, patience and a good eye for great products. And for that I have to thank all the fantastic collaborators. You can find them on the last pages of the magazine and in the collaborators section.
The rest of work: putting everything together, editing all the magazine, designing the look and some articles, is up to me, Ainhoa, the editor!
